Our employees, known as ‘Frontons’, are passionate about publishing and all contribute to our mission of making science open. In 2020 we welcomed 78 new hires to the Frontiers family, making us 762 people across seven locations around the world.

How we
work
With offices in seven locations around the world, our employees are used to working with each other online – and throughout 2020 we were able to continue to support our editors, authors, and reviewers from our homes.
2020 workplace initiatives
In 2020 we introduced several new workplace initiatives to support our people during the pandemic and beyond, including reimagining our office spaces and introducing more remote working.
Introducing more remote working
Our people now have the flexibility to choose where they want to work. And for those that live further away from the office, remote working will be available on a part- or full-time basis.
Prioritizing health and safety
We continue to monitor the pandemic closely and keep our employees informed of any new measures taken by Frontiers to help mitigate the spread of the virus.
Transforming our office spaces
More remote working offers the opportunity to rethink how we use our offices. When it’s safe to return, our workplaces will become “social hubs” with more meeting and event spaces to connect with colleagues.
Supporting mental health and wellbeing
Our Covid Support Team provides advice and assistance for employees struggling to cope with the pandemic. This includes flexible working arrangements for parents and resources to help us stay connected.
Editors’ Summit
In 2020 we ran two virtual editions of the Editors’ Summit. During the events we updated editors on our key company initiatives, including the success of our Covid-19 response and how we are maximizing research quality on a large scale.
